You can reach it by using
Command Chart
After reaching the "Entrance Gates" of
schMOOze U, use these commands (it would be helpful to print this page
and have it handy while you're MOOing):
| TYPE THIS COMMAND... | TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN |
| connect <name> <password>
or connect guest |
to get into the MOO |
| @who | to see who is connected and where in the MOO they are |
| page <person> <message>
( page greg Help! ) |
to talk with someone else in another part of the MOO |
| "<message>
( "I'm glad to be here! ) |
to talk with someone in the same room |
| :<subjectless sentence>
( :smiles. ) |
to show actions or emotion (such as
Yoshi smiles.) |
| @join <person>
( @join colega ) |
to join someone elsewhere on the MOO |
| @who <person>
( @who mehitabel ) |
to look for a specific person |
| look <person>
( look yoshi ) |
to look at someone in the same room |
| look here | to look at the room you're in, find exits |
| <exit_name>
( north ) |
to get from one room to the next |
| @quit | to leave the MOO |
Follow the instructions above to connect with the schMOOze server. When you are connected, type:
connect guest [ENTER]You will be prompted to give yourself a name and a brief description. Once in this virtual university, you will see descriptions of the space around you and the people who are in the same space as you. You can talk to them, perform actions, or move to another space in the MOO. At any time, you can type: help [ENTER] to get instructions.
It's a good idea to start out by going to the classroom to learn some basic commands. From the Entrance Gates, type classroom to be transported directly there.
To save you time in getting started, here are a few of the basics of MOOing.
To get your bearings at any time, type look here to see a description of the space you're in (including exits). Then type map to see a map of the campus, complete with a "You are here" mark.
Type @who to see a list of players currently online.
To talk to someone in the same space you are in, type a quotation mark and whatever you wish to say.
type: "Hello, how are you? [ENTER]
You will see: You say, "Hello, how are you?"
Other people in the same space will see: Betty [Guest] says, "Hello, how are you?"To perform an action, type a colon followed by a verb phrase:
type: :jumps around like a fool and waves to Gregor[ENTER]
You and everyone else in the room will see:
Betty [Guest] jumps around like a fool and waves to GregorYou can move around in the MOO a couple of different ways. One is by typing the name of obvious exits, such as north or lobby. You can also "teleport" to another location by joining someone who is in that location.
Type: @join gregor [ENTER]
and you will be transported to wherever Gregor is in the MOO.BUT! A little MOO netiquette: Gregor may be in his private office or virtual home there, so it's always polite to ask to be invited before joining someone, just as you would knock on his or her door in real life.
Type: knock gregor [ENTER]
Gregor will either invite you to join him or tell you that he is busy at the moment. You can "look" at virtual objects in the room where you are.
Type: look <object> (players in the MOO are "objects," too!)
So if you type look gregor, you will see:
A tall, goateed guy who would look VERY intelligent if he still wore nerdy hornrims! To go directly to the NETEACH Nook, type neteach from the Entrance Gates, and you will be magically transported to our room in the Conference Center.
When you have MOOed to your heart's content, type: @quit to log out of the system.
Try getting around in
schMOOze a bit before your first actual discussion session, so you'll have
some familiarity with how it all works. Have fun! See you there!
